UWCG announces Dr. Shelton Land promoted to Vice President Education
United Way of Central Georgia (UWCG) announced today the promotion of Dr. Shelton Land to Vice President Education. Dr. Land, a seven-year veteran of UWCG, will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s Birth to Eight initiatives that include ReadUnited, FIRST STEPS, and Parents as Teachers. Millions of Americans have yet to file taxes for the 2020 tax year. Some taxpayers may be putting off the annual duty because of the recent IRS extension until May 17th and some may not have filed because they get a yearly extension, but some people have not filed because they simply do not have the resources, means, or knowledge to file their own taxes.

They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away. As it turns out, doing the right thing and volunteering may also have health benefits. Studies have shown that people who volunteer may live longer than those who don’t.
United Way FIRST STEPS hosts virtual Baby Book Club
United Way of Central Georgia Initiative FIRST STEPS will host its first virtual “Baby Book Club” this Friday, March 26th at 6:30 pm. FIRST STEPS is organizing the event focusing on early childhood literacy alongside United Way’s Parents as Teachers, the Alpha Rho Chapter of Lambda Kappa Mu, and Amerigroup. Baby Book Club will focus on the importance of reading to a baby from the very beginning (even before birth).
