The Brookdale Resource Center is an emergency shelter and resource center in Macon, Georgia, that helps individuals and families experiencing homelessness stabilize their lives and move toward permanent housing. Here is a brief message from Brookdale’s Executive Director Alison Bender:

Details: The Brookdale Resource Center provides a structured 45-day residential program that offers safe housing along with comprehensive support services designed to help residents rebuild stability. Participants work with dedicated case managers who create personalized plans to address their specific needs—such as finding employment, obtaining identification documents, enrolling children in school, accessing benefits, and securing long-term housing.

The results speak for themselves. Lewis battled anxiety, depression, and homelessness until he found Brookdale. Here’s his story.

Brookdale's Story

Brookdale Resource Center (previously known as Brookdale Warming Center) opened in January of 2021 following the tragic discovery of two homeless men frozen to death on Christmas morning in 2020.

The consolidated government of Macon-Bibb County and various community organizations turned the former Brookdale Elementary School into a 24-hour facility that provided food and shelter to the homeless population during the winter months. It was evident that Brookdale Resource Center would still be needed once the cold weather subsided. Mayor Lester Miller approached the United Way of Central Georgia about taking over the operations and continuing the program.
