Parents as Teachers Program Celebrates Fathers

 

Kids with an involved father are twice as likely to go to college and find stable employment after high school. Fathers are a vital part of breaking the cycle of family poverty in our community. UWCG's Parents as Teachers program celebrated the important role fathers play in their children's lives by hosting a Father's Day Celebration for the families in the program on Monday, June 13th. 

UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL GEORGIA AWARDED TWO GRANTS TOTALING MORE THAN $4.4M

Governor Brian P. Kemp announced on Monday, May 16, 2022, that more than $415 million will be awarded from the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) program, a part of the American Rescue Plan to help Georgians, businesses, non-profits, and government agencies recover from the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Basics Receives $10,000 Grant

The Sandra Dunagan Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy and the Get Georgia Reading Campaign recently released its 2022 Collective Impact Grant initiative awardees. The Basics, a program of United Way of Central Georgia, was awarded $10,000 to continue its mission of bolstering brain development for children from birth to age 3.

UWCG Honors Top High School Seniors in Central GA

This year marked United Way of Central Georgia's first in-person presentation of the Golden Eagle Awards since taking over the awards from The Telegraph in 2019. The Telegraph began awarding Central Georgia’s highest achieving high school seniors with the Golden Eagle Awards in 1978. Over 190 seniors were recognized at The Grand Opera House during the Golden Eagle Awards ceremony on May 12, 2022. The ceremony awarded nearly $50,000 to nominated students joining an impressive group of over 9,000 nominees over the event's history.

2022 ACE Classic raises over $200K for Mammograms

This year's ACE Classic not only raised money, but will also likely help save lives in our community. "I have no idea what you do with the rest of your lives or what other philanthropy you support, but I can assure you that the money you invested in the Ace Classic helped to save some lives in our community," said George McCanless President & CEO of United Way of Central Georgia at the ACE Classic luncheon.

The Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds several Central Georgia organizations

Through the American Rescue Plan Act, several counties in Central Georgia have been designated to receive funding under the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP). The purpose of this funding is to supplement and expand existing efforts to provide food, shelter, and other supportive services by local social service organizations.

United Way of Central Georgia Welcomes Amanda Greechan as Communications Director

United Way of Central Georgia is pleased to welcome Amanda Greechan to the organization as Communications Director. Prior to this, she served as Digital Communications Officer at Wesleyan College for over four years and has over 10 years of experience working with community foundations and institutions of higher education.
