Unarmed Security Officer
Location: Macon, GA
Reports To: Security Captain, Operations Manager, and/or Executive Director
Schedule: 24-hour shelter environment; evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required

Position Summary
Brookdale Resource Center is seeking a dependable and professional Unarmed Security Officer to help maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for clients, residents, staff, volunteers, visitors, and community partners.
The Security Officer serves as a visible security presence and is often the first point of contact for individuals entering the facility. Responsibilities include facility monitoring, access control, emergency response, incident documentation, and conflict de-escalation. The ideal candidate is observant, calm under pressure, professional, and able to enforce policies respectfully while treating all individuals with dignity.
Essential Duties
- Conduct routine interior and exterior patrols of the facility and grounds.
- Monitor CCTV cameras, alarms, entrances, exits, and restricted areas.
- Control access to the facility and verify identification of staff, visitors, vendors, and contractors.
- Issue visitors pass and maintain visitor logs.
- Screen incoming guests and personal belongings in accordance with Brookdale policies.
- Identify and report suspicious activity, safety hazards, security breaches, and policy violations.
- Respond to medical emergencies, fire alarms, disturbances, evacuations, and other incidents.
- Contact law enforcement, EMS, fire, or other emergency services when necessary.
- Assist with emergency evacuations and maintain the safety of building occupants.
- Complete accurate and timely incident reports and shift documentation.
- Use verbal de-escalation and conflict-resolution techniques to address disruptive or challenging behavior.
- Enforce Brookdale policies and shelter rules consistently, fairly, and respectfully.
- Maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
- Work collaboratively with shelter staff, management, emergency responders, and community partners.
- Perform other security and safety duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to meet applicable requirements for employment as an unarmed security officer in Georgia.
- Strong communication, observation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Ability to successfully complete required background screening.
Preferred:
- Two or more years of security experience.
- Military, corrections, law enforcement, public safety, shelter, hospital, or related experience.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Experience working with vulnerable or diverse populations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to conduct indoor and outdoor patrols.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to safely navigate the facility and respond quickly to emergencies.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Work Environment
Brookdale Resource Center operates a 24-hour emergency shelter serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness and housing instability. Security Officers may encounter stressful, unpredictable, or crisis situations and must respond with professionalism, patience, sound judgment, and appropriate de-escalation techniques.
Security Officers are expected to balance safety, accountability, compassion, dignity, and respect while consistently enforcing Brookdale policies.
