Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (DPIL) is a book gifting program that gifts free books to children from birth to age five. The program is an initiative of United Way of Central Georgia and is currently available to children meeting the age requirements (birth to five years old) in Bibb County Public School attendance zones: Heritage, Union, Veterans, or John R. Lewis Elementary Schools; or currently enrolled in a Bibb Head Start program. DPIL is provided through a partnership with the Bibb County School District and The Literacy for Learning, Living and Leading in Georgia (L4GA) Grant.
Children cherish the personalized books they receive each month through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (DPIL). When parents and caregivers read to their children, it also exposes them to a larger, more diverse vocabulary and greater variety of sentence structures than just talking to them.
Reading together is the single most important way to help children get ready to read. Parents can support their child's education and cognitive development by sharing books as part of their everyday routine.
60% of kindergartners in neighborhoods where children performed poorly in school did not own a single book
The average retail cost of Imagination Library titles is about $13 per book. However, by purchasing in volume, the Imagination Library is able to acquire and mail customized titles for about $2.10 per child per month. Every child enrolled in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library receives one free book per month in the mail from birth to five years old.
For a donation of just $126, YOU can provide ONE book per MONTH to a child in our community for the first FIVE years of his/her life.
