United Way & FamilyWize team up with Walgreens to provide flu vaccinations ahead of flu season

United Way and FamilyWize, a prescription discount service helping communities in need, announce a partnership with Walgreens to offer free flu vaccinations in communities across Central Georgia. The free flu vaccine voucher is available to anyone 18 and older who is uninsured or unable to afford the flu vaccine. People can request the voucher by calling 211 and asking for the free FamilyWize flu vaccine. For qualified individuals, the voucher will be emailed for redemption at a local Walgreens pharmacy. So far this flu season, about 300 flu vaccine vouchers have been distributed across the state of Georgia.

As the United States continues to grapple with COVID-19, access to the flu vaccine is essential to help prevent the spread of the flu. While the flu vaccine does not prevent COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) believes it’s likely that both viruses will be spreading at the same time, increasing the importance of receiving a flu vaccination this year.

“This year it’s even more important for people to receive a flu vaccination, in light of the COVID-19 environment,” said George McCanless, President and CEO of United Way of Central Georgia. “We are proud to partner with FamilyWize, Walgreens and 211 to help people across Central Georgia access this vital vaccine during this critical point in our public health.”

Neither an ID or proof of citizenship are required to receive a vaccination. Vaccines are subject to availability. State, age and health-related restrictions may apply. For more information on the flu vaccine program, please call 211.
