United Way of Central Georgia is committed to improving early childhood education and grade level reading through community partnerships and volunteers.
Volunteers are needed for Read for the Record on October 27th! Read for the Record celebrates children's early language and social-emotional development through shared reading. Every year, Read for the Record brings together millions of adults and children to read the same book, building an intergenerational community.
Volunteer readers choose a school and read Nigel and the Moon to one or two classes between 10:00am-11:00am or 11:00am-12:00pm.
In Nigel and the Moon, a boy dreams big, but is too scared to share his dreams. Instead, he tells the moon every night about his dream of becoming an astronaut, dancer, and superhero. During career week, Nigel's community encourages him to feel confident about himself. This book encourages children to celebrate where they come from, who they are, and who they want to be.
