Annual Campaign

Dear Supporter,

As 2019-2020 Campaign Chair, please accept my personal gratitude for your commitment to improving our community. For the past three years, I have served on the UW Board and participated in the allocations process for our partner agencies. I have seen first-hand how the funds generated from our campaign impact our community and improve the lives of those most at risk in Central Georgia.

This past year, the United Way of Central Georgia’s campaign raised $5,139,778. The results exceeded the previous record of $5,042,283, as well as their goal of $5.1 million. In fact, in the last four years, United Way of Central Georgia has achieved the three highest campaign totals ever. With your help and enthusiasm, we will continue this legacy of successful campaigns to do even more for our Central Georgia community.

Before becoming the CEO of a hospital, I was an at risk youth in the early 60’s. My family was what is now referred to as “the working poor” in rural Oklahoma. I attended the Head Start Program, ate cheese, powdered eggs, and milk given out to low income families. I received free lunch and was the kid who stayed in the classroom during school activities that required a fee, because that was not in my family’s budget. It is because of my community’s support and my parent’s determination that I have had the opportunity to experience the successes in my life. It is my mission to pay it forward, and I hope you will join me in that effort.

I am excited to serve as the United Way Campaign Cabinet Chair and honor the United Way Mission - to fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every neighborhood. But we are more than just fund-raisers, we are also hand-raisers. We raise our hands not only to lead the fight, but to reach out to people who need help and hope. I ask you to continue to raise your hand and be the game-changer that so many in our community of Central Georgia need.
