The Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds several Central Georgia organizations

Through the American Rescue Plan Act, several counties in Central Georgia have been designated to receive funding under the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP). The purpose of this funding is to supplement and expand existing efforts to provide food, shelter, and other supportive services by local social service organizations.

United Way of Central Georgia is pleased to welcome Amanda Greechan to the organization as Communications Director. Prior to this, she served as Digital Communications Officer at Wesleyan College for over four years and has over 10 years of experience working with community foundations and institutions of higher education.

United Way to host Golden Eagle Awards this Thursday

United Way of Central Georgia (UWCG) will present the 44th Annual  Golden Eagle Awards ceremony Thursday, May 20th at 7 pm. The virtual event can be seen on the UWCG website. Since 1978, the Golden Eagle Awards have celebrated outstanding high school seniors in 13 categories: Art, Athletics, Citizenship, Drama, English Literature, Career/Technical/Agricultural (CTAE), Journalism/Marketing/Communication, Math, Music, Science, Social Science, Technology, and World Languages.

UWCG announces Dr. Shelton Land promoted to Vice President Education

United Way of Central Georgia (UWCG) announced today the promotion of Dr. Shelton Land to Vice President Education.  Dr. Land, a seven-year veteran of UWCG, will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s Birth to Eight initiatives that include ReadUnited, FIRST STEPS, and Parents as Teachers.  UWCG has been strategically focused on disrupting family poverty, with educational supports as the cornerstone of its strategy. Merrie’s Closet set to provide clothing to students in need

United Way of Central Georgia, alongside Mike and Nancy Kaplan, is proud to bring Merrie’s Closet to its first school in Central Georgia, Elam Alexander. Merrie’s Closet will be a clothing source for students in need. It will include khakis, sweatshirts, t-shirts, socks, underwear, and child/adult diapers. Elam Alexander will serve as the pilot program for Merrie’s Closet with hopeful expansion across Central Georgia.
