A "Happy" Effort to Give People a Hand-Up

Did You Know?

That the developmentally disabled have gotten a hand up from the Houston County Association for Exceptional Citizens since 1954. Today the agency serves Bibb, Houston and Peach counties and, as a Warner Robins-based service, the Robins Air Force Base.

With the Happy Hour Service Center, individuals have a conduit for jobs, such as working on the janitorial crew.

As the organization put it, the aim is to train developmentally disabled clients in "daily living skills, communication skills, social skills, and work adjustment skills. Everyone is guided toward reaching his/her fullest potential."

The agency also improves socialization skills - getting these folks to interact with peers, neighbors and supervisors.

The agency serves nearly 180 clients. This is just another story about the efforts that your United Way donations help make possible. Read more stories to get a better picture of how our community backs a variety of programs that better life in Central Georgia.
