DAVID LANIER TO LEAD THE 2006 UNTED WAY CAMPAIGN BB & T Regional President has recruited a group of top leaders to help with the drive.
Macon, GA--United Way of Central Georgia has selected David Lanier, Regional President for the BB & T Mid-South Georgia Region, to lead the 2006 United Way of Central Georgia campaign. Lanier and his team of volunteers are responsible for this fall's fundraising effort that supports 40 local health and human service agencies in the Central Georgia area. The campaign will kick off at the Douglas Theatre on September 13 and runs through December 5.
"I am so excited to be leading this year's campaign," Lanier said. "I have always been a great believer in United Way. The agency programs funded by this campaign are not only meeting the everyday needs of people in our community, but also are working to get at the root causes of issues facing Central Georgia and making a measurable impact on those issues. United Way does a wonderful job of ensuring objectives are met. The money raised through the campaign is used appropriately to meet as many needs as possible and helps make Central Georgia the best place to live."
Born in Durham, North Carolina, Lanier joined BB & T in May of 1993 and has more than 30 years of banking experience. During his career, he has served as regional manager, commercial lender and finance center manager before moving to Macon in 2003 to take on the role of Regional President. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Banking and Finance from Appalachian State University and is a graduate of the School of Banking at the University of Virginia.
"Your gift to United Way will make Central Georgia stronger. I believe it is the best way to have the greatest impact on our communities," said Lanier. "Every gift counts and every gift is appreciated. The support we get from corporations and donors-both in the workplace and out-really makes a difference and we need that support again this year."
"People work hard for their money and we know they can choose any nonprofit, which they want to help. We hope that they will choose United Way to meet their philanthropic needs because it is one way to help many different causes--early childhood development, financial needs, credit issues, elderly issues, medical and health concerns, among others."
According to Lanier, "The good news is that from going out and visiting with the CEOs of some of Central Georgia's largest corporations, I'm hearing that businesses are feeling good about the economy and believe things are definitely looking up for our area. Working together through both businesses and individuals, we can make a difference. I am thankful for the hundreds of volunteers and contributors to United Way and its agencies. Together we will help to improve the daily lives of the people in our communities by making sure the agencies of United Way are focused on making the communities in which we live a better place."
Lanier has been actively involved with United Way both here and in other cities where he has lived. He served on United Way of Central Georgia's Campaign Cabinet, Board of Trustees, and Fund Distribution Committee and also chaired the Allocations Committee for the United Way in Raleigh, North Carolina.
He is a strong community supporter, serving on the board of NewTown Macon; past President and Treasurer, Sertoma Club; past Vice President and Treasurer, Junior Achievement of Eastern North Carolina; and Chairman and member of various non-profits in North Carolina, including Boys and Girls Club and Salvation Army. He attends Martha Bowman Methodist Church in Macon.
David and his wife, Lucy, have two children, Christen Lanier Wright, who resides in Virginia, and Matthew Ryan Lanier, who currently resides in North Carolina.
