March 22, 2007 UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN RAISES $4,305,570!
Macon, GA – United Way of Central Georgia Campaign Chairman David Lanier, regional president of BB & T’s Mid-South Region, announced that United Way of Central Georgia raised $4,305,570 in last fall’s fund-raising drive. The announcement was made at United Way’s Annual Meeting and Awards Celebration held at the Holiday Hotel & Conference Center on Thursday, March 22. The money raised through this campaign supports 75 programs of 40 local health and human service agencies.
Hundreds of community leaders and volunteers were present to celebrate the success of the campaign and to recognize the individuals and corporations that helped make it possible.
New board members were elected during the business part of the meeting. They include: James Kinchen, Marsha Buzzel, J. Brian Fobbus, Sam Hart III, Linda Holland, Jack Lester, Sam Macfie, Keith Moffett, Dan Perdue, David Perry and Teresa Thornton.
United Way Board Chair Steve Kruger, L. E. Schwartz & Son, also announced the new officers of United Way’s Executive Committee. In addition to Kruger, they include: David Lanier, BB & T; Marjorie Carter, McNair, McLemore & Middlebrooks; John Hiscox, Macon Housing Authority; Mary Huff, Cox Communications; Beth McLaughlin, Houston County Board of Education; and Marvin Bailey, Central State Hospital.
The final order of business was to announce that P.J. Browning, president & publisher of The Telegraph, would be the 2007 United Way of Central Georgia Campaign Chair.
