GEICO Is United Way's Largest Contributor

GEICO and its associates delivered record-breaking contributions and was once again named United Way of Central Georgia’s top contributor, pledging $838,429 during the 2009 United Way campaign—an increase of 9% over last year’s total.

“We cannot thank GEICO enough,” said 2009 United Way Campaign Chair Jim Manley, president and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Middle Georgia. The money they raised will go a long way in helping strengthen our local communities and help people in need in these still challenging economic times.”

GEICO associates raised $688,429 which was $54,000 more than they raised in 2008. Their corporate gift also increased—from $134,000 in 2008 to $150,000 in 2009, an additional $16,000 in new campaign dollars. Combined with the corporate gift, the grand total raised by GEICO was $838,429 which is $70,000 more than the company and it associates raised in 2008. That was the largest dollar increase of any United Way of Central Georgia company campaign.

“The key to our success was the dedication and leadership of our employee committee led by coordinators Keely Porter, Tammy Little and Christina Collinsworth,” said Shawn Burklin, southeastern regional vice president of GEICO.
And we never could have done this without the support of our GEICO associates who are always willing to help people who need help.”

According to GEICO coordinator Keely Porter, “I applaud my fellow GEICO associates. We have had record-breaking campaigns for the past three years and that speaks volumes about the caring spirit of our employees. On behalf of myself, Tammy and Christina, I just want to thank our coworkers for coming through once again, as I knew they would!”
