SunTrust's Jim Manley to Lead 2009 Campaign
James A. “Jim” Manley, III, president and chief executive officer of SunTrust Bank, Middle Georgia, has been selected to lead the 2009 United Way of Central Georgia Campaign. Manley and his team of volunteers (see attached list) are responsible for this fall’s fund-raising effort that supports programs that serve more than 100,000 central Georgians annually in 14 counties. The campaign will kick off at the Cox Capital Theater on September 3 and runs through December 3.
“I’m very excited to be chairing this year’s campaign,” Manley said. “I have been a volunteer and donor to United Way for many years both here and in other communities and know first-hand how important the campaign is for the continuation of local services. The local agency programs funded by the annual campaign make such a big difference in the lives of people in our Central Georgia communities.”
“We are very fortunate to have Jim at the helm during these challenging economic times,” added Ron Watson, president and chief executive officer of United Way of Central Georgia. “He has the leadership skills, drive and desire to strengthen central Georgia communities. I am confident that our campaign will be successful under Jim’s leadership.”
A 20-year financial services industry veteran, Manley, who joined SunTrust in 2000, most recently served as senior vice president of Commercial and Middle Market Banking for
SunTrust Bank, Middle Georgia. Prior to being named to that position in 2006, Manley worked for SunTrust in Savannah where he was a Commercial Banking Relationship Manager. Manley began his banking career in 1989 with Bank of America in Atlanta where he held a series of increasingly responsible positions in commercial banking, retail banking and marketing.
He earned bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Georgia, and an MBA from Georgia Southern University. Manley is a board member of NewTown Macon, the MedCen Foundation, the United Way, and a member of the Macon Rotary Club and Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society. Manley and his family attend the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church.
